Data Collection Overview

SOAPS Chat is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect and process only the data necessary to provide you with a personalized journaling experience. All data is stored securely on your device and, when enabled, synced to your iCloud account.

Cloud Formatting & Processing

On iOS 26 and newer:

All text formatting and rewriting is performed entirely on your device using Apple's Foundation Models. Your content never leaves your device, ensuring maximum privacy and security.

Cloud formatting is not available on iOS 26+ because all processing is done locally on your device.

On iOS versions prior to 26.0:

You have the option to enable cloud-based formatting and rewriting services. When enabled:

Your transcribed text may be sent to a secure cloud service (OpenRouter.ai) for formatting and punctuation enhancement
You can rewrite your journal entries using cloud-based AI assistance
This service uses industry-standard encryption and security practices
You can opt in or opt out of cloud formatting at any time in Settings

When cloud formatting is disabled, all processing uses on-device Foundation Models and your content never leaves your device.

On-Device Processing

Regardless of your cloud formatting preference, the following features always operate entirely on your device:

Audio transcription using Apple Speech Recognition
Text formatting and rewriting (when cloud formatting is disabled or on iOS 26+)
All data storage in Core Data
App functionality and user interface

Data Storage

Your journal entries and app data are stored using:

Core Data: All your journal entries, sessions, and settings are stored locally on your device using Core Data
CloudKit (Optional): When enabled in Settings, your data is synced to your personal iCloud account for backup and cross-device access
iCloud Keychain: API keys and sensitive credentials are stored securely in your device's keychain

You have full control over CloudKit sync and can disable it at any time in Settings.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Data is only shared in the following circumstances:

Cloud Formatting Service: When enabled, transcribed text is sent to OpenRouter.ai for formatting. This data is processed according to OpenRouter's privacy policy
iCloud Sync: When enabled, your data is synced to your personal iCloud account, which is governed by Apple's privacy policies
Export Features: You can export your data as CSV, which remains entirely under your control

We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or analytics purposes.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

Access: View all your journal entries and data within the app
Export: Export your data as CSV at any time
Delete: Delete individual entries or all data through the app
Control: Enable or disable cloud formatting and CloudKit sync at any time
Opt-Out: Disable cloud formatting to ensure all processing happens on-device

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

All data stored locally is encrypted by iOS
CloudKit sync uses end-to-end encryption
API keys are stored securely in the iOS Keychain
Network communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption

Children's Privacy

SOAPS Chat is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
